Abstract: The Handoff Algorithm for Hierarchical Multimedia (HAHM) wireless networks proposed in this paper is a handoff algorithm for a hierarchical-architecture communication environment. When a mobile provides a handoff request, both the catalogue of multimedia data that the Mobile Host (MH) is delivering and the maximum (and minimum) resources that the MH requests, will be considered in this method. According to those considerations, the algorithm will select the most suitable tier, which can provide enough resources for the requirement of user. The algorithm can provide good quality of service continually. A cell of the most suitable tier can be selected for a MH to transfer multimedia data. Furthermore, the HAHM can reduce the probability of disconnect.
