Abstract: The use of a rapid prototyping model for the development of web-based instruction used in the delivery of a social service curriculum, ''Client Interaction Series'', is discussed. A literature review relating to specific elements of the design process is incorporated. The conceptual design of the prototype is demonstrated through concept mapping, development of operational objectives, content chunking, media selection and coupling, and interface and message design. Development and implementation of the prototype are described, citing design considerations, instructional media linkages, and usability testing. A reflection of practical experiences and general recommendations is made, including template design, the use of sound files, effective authoring tools, and the balance of evaluating expense vs. quality product development. Conclusions regarding the use of the model include some changes to the model for the future.
