Abstract: This paper describes the principle of input torque control system and test results of a double cavity half-toroidal CVT without using torque sensors. The torque command is modified to pressure command for supporting the tangential force of the power roller. The CVT has two feedback loops of the offset of power roller for tilting force control and the pressure difference for supporting load. The pressure is controlled by a 4-way pressure difference servo-valve. The control quality is examined by loading steady-state and step torque on a double cavity half-toroidal CVT with speed ratio range of 1:5.2 and input torque capacity of 370 N m.
