Abstract: 'Tracking and tracing' using automated identification (Auto ID) technology has become more and more important in manufacturing and management. Radio frequency identification (RFID), a technology of Auto ID, is powerful in fostering monitoring and controlling for advanced manufacturing. In this paper, the methodology and approaches that support electronics manufacturing, automotive industry and aerospace and aeronautical industries through RFID were studied. RFID can be used in tracking parts with tags, tracking assembled items and work-in-process throughout the manufacturing process and therefore monitoring and controlling the manufacturing process. Challenges and future work about RFID in advanced manufacturing were also discussed.
