Innovation for sustainability: the transformation of the transportation system
by Anke Arnaud, Michael J. Williams
World Review of Intermodal Transportation Research (WRITR), Vol. 3, No. 3, 2010

Abstract: Faced with the inconvenient truth of unsustainable levels of global warming and the pollution of our air, land and water, organisations in the transportation industry are tasked with meeting the challenge of balancing economic, social and environmental sustainability. To address these concerns effectively, organisations and their citizens (employees) must become innovative in the way they develop and manufacture products, offer services and conduct business. In this paper, we describe the process of innovation for sustainability and how it can promote the development of a sustainable transportation industry for the future. We present several examples of innovations in the transportation industry and offer suggestions for creating and improving sustainability in this complex industry.
