A Bluetooth routing protocol supporting minimum average transmission latency

Abstract: In previous proposed Bluetooth routing protocols, the routing path with minimum number of hop count is often chosen as the target route. However, shortest paths are not always the best routes, because shortest path may pass through hot-spot nodes, which increase the packet delivery time significantly. In this paper, we proposed a Minimum Delay Routing Protocol (MDP) for Bluetooth radio system. The delay time is estimated in each link using queuing theory. Because the operations of master, relay and slave are quite different, three delay time estimation models based on queuing theory are also proposed to support the proposed MDP. Experimental results reveal that the proposed MDP outperforms DSR-based Bluetooth routing protocol in terms of delay time.
