Abstract: The objective of this research is to develop an intelligent knowledge-based tool for the plastic industry. This research is divided into four phases: to collect all the required data for analysis with respect to functional, structural and manufacturing modules; to develop universal rules that control the plastic injection moulding process, based on the collected data, journals, books, manuals and personal interviews with targeted elements of the plastic industry; to represent the rules in a logical fashion, using knowledge-based programming techniques; and to develop a user-friendly interface that facilitates effective communication between the user and the software.
