Abstract: The papers includes in this special issue have been selected from the contributions presented at the GERPISA 17th International Conference: 'Sustainable development in the automobile industry: changing landscapes and actors' as part of the research programme on sustainable development in the automobile industry. The automobile industry and sustainable development: concepts and doctrines, public policies and company strategies. Automobile industry is facing a new economic, technological and political environment. The potential scarcity of future energy resources and escalating fears about climate change have become powerful forces for change in the industry, even if the regulatory impact of the policy response to these issues remains as yet unclear.
