Abstract: As a mid size company grow, they are increasingly likely to operate in a distributed environment. As environments become more distributed, visibility across functions, departments and operating locations becomes important and thus starts looking for a tailor made solution to streamline their operations across various functions and locations. Companies are not only implementing a standardised application but are also moving to a common architecture and infrastructure. For many companies, a standardised software rollout is a good time to do some consolidation of their IT infrastructure across various locations. Companies are also finding that the ERP solutions help them get rid of their legacy systems; sometimes it costs less for companies to replace their dinosaur systems than fix them. Small and medium enterprises, or SME, form the large majority of industrial and service units across the world. India's SME sector is a vibrant, dynamic, flexible and productive entity. SME embraced high technology, accepted norms of quality and competitiveness and continued to expand faster than the rest of the industrial economy. This study attempts to identify the factors for ensuring successful implementation of ERP packages in context to a small and medium scale enterprise (SME) in India.
