Abstract: Total quality management (TQM) is a strategy aimed at achieving excellence in organisations. It is the cornerstone of improving productivity, profitability and customer satisfaction in organisations. While a quality performance is imperative to attain the competitive advantage, innovation is the catalyst for further growth. Consequently, it is important to evaluate the appropriateness of TQM for achieving innovation performance. This study investigates on how TQM is influencing the innovation performance in Indian organisations. After a detailed literature review a research framework and a set of hypothesis were formulated. A valid and reliable questionnaire was prepared and primary data was collected. Data was analysed using confirmatory factor analysis and multiple regression by considering TQM variables as independent and innovation performance variables as dependent. Overall the findings indicated the existence of a positive correlation between TQM and innovation performance which cannot be ignored. Further a strategy of focusing on the identified significant variables of TQM was suggested for improving the innovation performance.
