Abstract: The paper discusses the importance of ethics to engineers within a stakeholder approach. The role of ethics and continuing engineering education and training is developed with reference to professional codes and rules of conduct. A schematic framework is constructed to emphasise the various ingredients and outcomes of the continuing engineering education and ethics processes. Management has a moral duty to ensure that these are effectively provided, whilst at the same time to become role models. The importance of environmental awareness, responsibility and training is highlighted in relation to the technological and business scenario.
