Abstract: Today's knowledge and technological explosion compels tertiary educators to rethink and redesign their courses. This paper presents the process and results of an experiment using a reflective group learning model to facilitate the teaching of case studies in the area of engineering and technology management. It is systematically structured into three phases: establishment phase, preparation phase and class phase. The learning process involves rule setting, group formulation, individual study, group discussion, random group sharing, group presentation and individual reflection. The model has been used to teach a number of case studies in a continuing education environment. The results from our experiments suggest that students are able to achieve deep and meaningful learning through co-operative efforts. The motivation and involvement of the students have also been enhanced. Lessons learned from this study include the need for a systematic structure of the learning process and the continual encouragement of active participation in group discussion to ensure the successful implementation of the model.
