Effect of pH on morphology, size and composition of calcium phosphate phase obtained in wet chemical

Abstract: In the present work, the effect of pH of Ca(NO3)2.4H2O and (NH4)2HPO4 primary solutions as the beginning materials in synthesis of a calcium phosphate phase, was examined. So, we investigated the wet chemical reactions in solution at ambient temperature by a sonochemical process aimed at hydroxyapatite synthesis. The results revealed that by reducing the pH of the systems, the probability of obtaining hydroxyapatite phase will be decreased and a noticeable reduction in size of particles will be seen. The tendency of particles is to grow along a preferable direction in pH = 4.2, but this tendency will disappear in lower and higher pHs. The results indicate that one-step synthesis of HA nanoparticles can be possible in aqueous solution using ultrasonic irradiation. Indeed, it will be favourable to obtain composition with a little difference from stoichiometric hydroxyapatite, which has very small particles in nanoscale, with considering biodegradation of bone cements and tissue engineering scaffolds.
