Abstract: A sub-grid model (or two-component element), which incorporates a thin localisation band within a continuum element, has been developed for strain localisation problems. The model has been implemented in a three-dimensional, explicit analysis code (EPIC). Formulations and some preliminary numerical results of a single element under shear and of a three-dimensional analysis of a plate are presented.
