Technical note: Calculations concerning the phases present in natural gas hydrates

Abstract: The enthalpy change accompanying the phase change of methane from gas to 'cage' enclosure in a clathrate is calculated. It is shown to be close to the heat of vaporisation below the critical temperature. [Received: December 19, 2008; Accepted: March 11, 2009]
