Prediction and consequences of petroleum spills into the Nigerian aquatic environment in the year 2000

Abstract: The prediction and consequences of petroleum spills into Nigeria's aquatic environment in the year 2000 are presented. The forecasts are made from available petroleum spillage cases coupled with oral questionnaire and experimentally obtained data using moving average, t-distribution and simple exponential regression-correlation computational techniques. The simulated forecasts provide information on the likely number of petroleum spills, the amount spilled, the net volume in the aquatic environment, the amount recovered, the sources and courses, and the resulting consequences. The predictions further indicate that the average fish catch per head per year decreases with an increase in the net volume of petroleum spilt.
