Coexistence between UWB and other communication systems – tutorial review
by Bazil Taha Ahmed, Miguel Calvo Ramon
International Journal of Ultra Wideband Communications and Systems (IJUWBCS), Vol. 1, No. 1, 2009

Abstract: Ultra-wideband (UWB) systems are suitable for underlay communications. This paper reviews the coexistence between UWB and other communications systems that work either within the main band (3.1 GHz-10.6 GHz) or out of it. A brief description of the UWB technologies is given. Spectrum regulations around the world are described. The coexistence between the UWB and the UMTS system is investigated as a study case. Finally, detect and avoid (DAA) techniques are given. It is shown that a new UWB emission mask is needed to reduce as much as possible the impact of UWB upon other systems.
