Abstract: The strategic planning process in the large corporation is an elusive instrument to the technical manager, but is one of the key mechanisms used by top management to run the company. The technological revolution and the new wave of managing in a period of change and increasing complexity begs a look at the meaning of the strategic plan, its advantages and short-comings, how it influences the engineering management and professional alike, and how the technical manager can influence it.
