Competitiveness and cooperation in a global industry

Abstract: In this paper, presented to the International Association for Vehicle Design's annual Congress in March 1987, the author surveys the trend towards cooperation between automobile manufacturers in the search for international competitiveness and rationalization. In Europe particularly, and also in South America, the trend has been evident in mergers, take-overs and joint ventures.
