New relationships in the automotive industry
by Mark Snowdon
International Journal of Technology Management (IJTM), Vol. 5, No. 4, 1990

Abstract: The term 'globalization' is often used to describe the process which companies must undergo in order to become internationally competitive. In this paper, the author argues that globalization is not simply a matter of selling a single product worldwide, nor a reflection of scale alone, nor simply a matter of achieving the structure of a conventional multinational corporation. Rather, he describes the process as a set of dynamics, or what might be called 'rules of the game'. He shows what considerations must drive automobile manufacturers if they are to succeed in the global market-place.
