Cooperating to compete: using technology to link the multinational corporation and the country

Abstract: The new dynamic of the multinational enterprise – the nation/state relationship – is changing, and requires that viable cooperative modes be explored. This paper looks at the preferences and priorities of the multinational and development paradigms, and offers a new analytical construct or synthesis that is neither state-centred nor firm-centred, but spans national boundaries – the 'technological paradigm'. The technological paradigm offers a more competitive mode for operating in the international environment because it does not negate conflicting forces of governance but suggests a new cooperative synthesis that may be practically applied by corporations and developing countries, in particular.
