Issues on the future of R&D and innovation in the USA

Abstract: The objective of this paper is to identify some of the issues that will have an impact upon the future of R&D and innovation in the USA, and on building R&D and innovation and global competitiveness scenarios for the next decade and beyond. To this end, relevant geopolitical trends are briefly reviewed; the human factor on which R&D and innovation are based is discussed; some international comparisons of R&D intensity and innovativeness are made; and finally some relevant research issues are identified.
