International Journal of Technology Management (IJTM), Vol. 7, No. 6/7/8, 1992

Abstract: The existence of an efficient telecommunication network is a prerequisite for regional economic development. An inability to exchange information on-line slows down the growth of existing industries and deters potential new investors. In this paper we review the global telecommunications market, and discuss the issues faced by the member countries of the European Economic Community (EEC) as they try gradually to open their telecommunications markets to competition to meet the challenges of Europe 1992. We also discuss the needs of Poland in the area of telecommunications by the year 2000 as an example of the opportunities that exist today in Eastern Europe for the US, European and Far Eastern telecommunications vendors.
