Abstract: This article reports on a survey of US technological competitiveness in the global economy. The survey ranks the United States against other countries, it identifies current problems interfering with technological competitiveness in both the United States and other countries, and it examines the importance of different management practices and government policies for improving competitiveness. The survey was conducted among scientists, engineers and managers from over thirty-five different countries, and was conducted during the Second International Conference on the Management of Technology held in Miami, Florida, in March 1990. The survey results are analysed and interpretations are made in light of US and international issues.
