Manufacturing-oriented simulation for production management

Abstract: This paper proposes a new manufacturing-oriented simulation package for production management. The objective is to present a technical summary for the proposed simulation system. The distinctive characteristic of this system is its introduction of production-order methods into the simulation model. A case study describes the application of the system to an actual manufacturing line. The target manufacturing system is a typical multi-variate low-volume production system with a complex material flow. The simulation study ascertains its potential productivity, bottle-neck process analysis, optimal number of pallets, and other features. This information is extremely important in production management and affects both design and operation. Finally, a simulation strategy for production management in a CIM environment is discussed.
