Integrating R&D with company efforts to improve quality

Abstract: In many American companies, R&D or engineering managers must integrate their function's operations with company efforts to improve quality. To do this, R&D or engineering managers must adapt general principles about quality improvement to their own function's operations. There are two ways in which R&D managers can work on improving quality: by improving quality within the laboratory; and by working with other functions to improve quality in the company. There are also many other things that R&D managers can do together with the managers of other functions to improve quality. R&D and engineering managers should work on exploiting the potential of CAD/CAM more effectively.
