Business process systems engineering

Abstract: This paper describes the practical framework of design and operational methods which underpin the effective implementation of the overall philosophical principles of business process effectiveness improvements. As with systems engineering generally it emphasises the essential requirement to apply all relevant elements in an integrated mutually supportive way in contrast to the traditional Western approach of using some of the elements some of the time. Managers and Engineers know that principles alone are not enough and they are concerned with ensuring that all details are attended to. This characteristic is an essential requirement of practical business process systems engineering. Also each company embarking on the very lengthy major strategic change programme which effective business process systems engineering entails must communicate a coherant and consistent standardised, yet non-bureaucratic vision and supporting framework, underpinned by detailed methodologies. This reduces the vulnerability of the change programme to loss of a key individual or leader. The paper proposes such an enabling framework based upon considerable practical experiences.
