Abstract: The effect of particulate reinforcement on the peak ageing characteristics of an aluminium 2124 matrix in an Al-SiCp composite system is modelled in a rigorous statistical framework. The results obtained suggest that the mechanism controlling the matrix ageing kinetics changes as the particle size is increased from 5 to 50 µm.
