Analysis of operator's behaviour in manual tracking systems

Abstract: In this paper, the authors aim to analyse the training performance of an operator performing a manual-tracking task and to study the effects of visual aids on the operator's training performance. A program called the Tacking Training System was developed and it allows the operator to manually track a moving target using a joystick and to monitor the operator's performance. Two sets of experiments, one with visual aids and another without, were conducted. The results of the experiments indicate that through continuous training, the performance of the operators can be improved and with visual aids, the training time of the operator can be shortened.
