Abstract: With the requirements of high precision, high speed and openness on feed system of numerical control (NC) machine tool and with the wide applications of full-digital closed-loop servo drive, it is critical to systematically investigate the design architectures and control policy of motion control card. In this paper the control system model and control method of the servo feed system is studied and the hardware and software design of the open motion control card is investigated. A motion control card based on PC-bus, DSP and field programmable gate array (FPGA) is developed. The control precision and the functions of the open motion control card are experimentally evaluated and the experimental results demonstrate that the basic requirements of the feed system are met and the application potentials of the motion control card are large.
