by Loredana Santo
International Journal of Surface Science and Engineering (IJSURFSE), Vol. 2, No. 5, 2008

Abstract: This paper presents a review of laser cladding of metals, which is mainly used to coat and repair the surface of various components, in order to increase resistance to wear, corrosion, erosion and oxidation. Different systems of laser cladding were described and various applications for the production of high-performance coatings were discussed in terms of different substrate and coating materials. Some aspects and advantages of each application were highlighted to show the suitability of laser cladding for material-processing applications.
