ISO 15531 MANDATE: a standardised data model for manufacturing management

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present the work undertaken within the International Standardisation Organisation, by the ISO TC 184/SC4 ''Industrial Automation Systems and Integration/Industrial data'' Group in the field of industrial manufacturing management data, resulting in the ISO 15531 ''MANDATE'' (MANufacturing management DATa Exchange) standard. After an overall description of the standard, of its main features (scope, basic principles) and a presentation of the global standardisation environment in the field of industrial data, this paper will analyse the benefits that can be expected from the use of standards in the domain of the management and exchange of manufacturing information.
