Abstract: This paper deals with a permanent magnet synchronous motor control using non-integer order I-P controllers. The main contributions of this paper are the development of a method to find the controller's parameters using the pole placement principle and the reference fractional model choice of the closed loop transfer function. The reference model's parameters are calculated using genetic algorithms such that its step response will be equivalent to that of a second order dumped model. The application of these controllers to the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) shows its interest particularly its robustness with respect to the mechanical parameters variations; characteristic which cannot be obtained using the classical integer controllers.
