Abstract: Closed-Satellite Gear Train (CSGT) is a new type of EGTs. Comparing the CSGT with the planetary gear mechanism, the CSGT can get more compactness structure in axial at the same transmitting ratio, and can get a broader transmitting ratio at the same transmitting power. The aim of this article is to provide a systematic method to perform optimum design or evaluation for CSGT. Based on the investigation of the transmitting characteristics, the key performance objectives of CSGT, which include the partnership of gears and the moment of inertia of CSGT, are analysed. The optimum design model between input parameters and output characteristics of CSGT is established based on systematic design point. Furthermore, these design processes for improving performance are induced as optimum design events. Finally, an example is discussed to apply the method.
