Energy-efficient and low carbon emission residential building near Torino, Italy

Abstract: This paper describes a green design strategies applied on a residential building ''House E3'' – an eco-compatible and energy efficient building near Turin airport. High noise level, elevated humidity and severe summer climate of the site were key considerations when creating the envelope with emphasis on inside comfort. Correct use of materials based on a previous research work, integrated design strategies covering both thermal and power needs, and both passive and active technology solutions generated approximately 12% higher construction costs and allowed total energy saving for all uses of 83% and global payback period of less than six years.
