Abstract: Based on Deterrence Theory (DT), Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and Self-Regulation Theory, this study is dedicated to better understanding the causes of employees' reactions to recent popular surveillance devices in workplace. Unlike previous studies, this paper takes another role of such surveillance technology into account: the means of information assurance recognised by employers. The three theories from different disciplines are used to explain complex human reactions by clarifying major conceptions in the electronic monitoring workplace such as perceived control and illusion of control. A research framework is proposed to call for future empirical research.
