International Journal of Services and Operations Management (IJSOM), Vol. 4, No. 5, 2008

Abstract: This research outlines the operational process of Original Design Manufacture (ODM) CPD and establishes a System Dynamics (SD) model to observe how project duration and Engineering Change (EC) numbers change. The research also induces three key decision factors in the ODM CPD process: Product Data Management (PDM) maturity, Engineering Change Management (ECM) mechanisms, and Concurrency. Through computer simulation we observe their effects on lowering project duration and EC numbers. After finishing SD modelling, the authors conduct expert interviews in E company in Taiwan's STN-LCD industry to elicit practical data and run simulation and Design of Experiment (DOE). In this way the study wishes to consolidate the SD model so that it can approach as closely as possible the operational context in the real world and enhance learning for practitioners of ODM CPD.
