Abstract: We propose a new histogram generation method from the HSV colour space and show how it can be effectively used for temporal video segmentation. In our approach, combined human visual perception of colour and texture is captured in a single feature vector. Relative distribution of grey levels represents texture information while that of hue values represents colour information. This method shows high recall and precision of shot boundary detection in content-based video retrieval applications.
