Integrating prosodic information and selectional restrictions in technical translation

Abstract: This study involves the integration of Prosodic Information and Selectional Restrictions for ambiguity resolution of spatial and temporal expressions in the translation of non-specialised Instructive Technical Texts for the language pair English–Greek. For achieving the same effect in written instructions as it is observed in spoken instructions, namely directness, precision and lack of ambiguity, the proposed approach involving Selectional Restrictions is established on a series of observed links between Prosody and Semantics, Semantics and Translation and Semantics and Selectional Restrictions from the domain of Artificial Intelligence.
