Abstract: Management education is increasingly becoming important and playing a central role in the success of managers and organisations worldwide. In Malaysia, management education has seen a remarkable growth in recent years as reflected in the steep rise in the number of higher learning institutes offering programmes in management at various levels. These institutes need to play a major role in producing the right quality and quantity of managers to meet the requirements of the marketplace. An effective management education is a must to produce world-class Malaysian managers besides making Malaysia a regional hub for management education. This paper focuses in particular on some pertinent issues in management education and provides recommendations to improve the effectiveness of management education in the context of Malaysia. This is a qualitative paper based on the author's reflections combined with inputs from informal discussions with several management educators, management consultants, management students and managers, which had taken place at several meetings, seminars and conferences over the last five years, and also combined with a review of literature in the field of management education.
