Abstract: A novel efficient numerical solution scheme for the computation of the particle velocity in two-phase flows is proposed. A numerical test shows that the new solution procedure is very robust, accurate, and efficient, and the errors induced by the time discretisation are minimised. The accuracy of the new scheme is independent of the size of the time step. A new time scale is introduced to investigate the drag force. It characterises the relaxation time of the particle to the gas-phase velocity. Numerical test and theoretical analysis show that this new time scale is more appropriate to characterise the particle's motion.
