Human integrated capability expansion: viewed from ontological perspectives

Abstract: This article asserts that people and the society are facing chronic dilemmas of human and social development. Economic efforts fail to bring authentic development for people. By exploring the ontological nature of man and the human society, the authors find that the reason lies in humans' ignorance of, and their alienation from, their self and the world. This finding helps to solve the problem at its root, as compared with those drawn on the behaviourism and phenomenalism. This finding and the critical assessments of mainstream economics guarantee the theoretical and empirical legitimacy of the capability approach and the integrated framework for human and social development.
