LyraFILE: a component-based VFAT file system for embedded systems
by Mei-Ling Chiang, Ching-Ju Lo
International Journal of Embedded Systems (IJES), Vol. 2, No. 3/4, 2006

Abstract: We have designed and implemented a component-based VFAT file system, LyraFILE. To support the basic VFAT operations, we reused some codes from the Linux VFAT file system. In order for it to operate efficiently in resource-limited embedded systems, some enhancements are made especially for performance improvement and memory saving. In addition, LyraFILE contains multiple components that can be separately configured or replaced for adapting into target embedded environments, changing file system specific features, or performance or memory issues. The experience of this study can serve as a reference for embedding Linux file systems into a target system that needs storage capability.
