Abstract: A CFD case study of the Orvade Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) incinerator in Saran in France was conducted to investigate the possibility of improving the capacity of the plant and to ensure compliance with European Union (EU) environmental legislation, in particular retention time and CO emission requirements. Two cases were analysed, the pre-modified state (operation prior to modification) and the modified state (capacity increase of 12%). The CFD model predicted that the pre-modified state did not meet retention time requirements. The modified state demonstrated the ability to meet the requirements of retention time and a reduction in CO.
