Abstract: The paper presents investigation results of the Al2O3+TiC tool ceramics uncoated and coated with the TiN and TiN+multiTiAlSiN+TiN coatings deposited in the PVD process, as well as with the TiN+Al2O3 coating obtained in the CVD process. Values of the surface fractal dimension and the multifractal spectra were determined using the projective covering method based on data obtained on the atomic force microscope AFM. The paper presents results of the phase composition investigations, tests of mechanical properties, including thickness, hardness and roughness tests, as well as of the examinations of structure and topography of the surface using scanning microscopy.[Received 14 November 2005; Accepted 5 January 2007]
