Nuclear energy development in Romania

Abstract: At present, in Europe, there is a major concern for the existing energy mix. Nuclear energy can play an important role in the energy future of the Europe. It represents a clean alternative for electricity generation and has a significant stability of the production costs. Closing certain aged, inefficient and highly polluting thermal power plants and the increase of generation capacities with new nuclear power units stand for the optimum clue totally fit for the sustainable development requirements in Romania. The paper discusses the status of nuclear power in Romania and its future prospective.
