Abstract: In response to the problems of poor English grades and low learning efficiency among college students, a research method on teaching reform and development direction is proposed in the context of the internet era. Firstly, analyse the current problems in English teaching from multiple perspectives. Secondly, analyse the advantages of online English teaching and identify multiple directions for teaching reform and development, including the application of English film and television resources, strengthening extracurricular knowledge expansion, deepening curriculum reform, exploring efficient teaching models using internet technology, and strengthening the connection between English teaching content and the internet. Finally, the Boltzmann machine model is used to select appropriate teaching reform and development directions for universities based on their own situation. The example analysis results show that after the application of the method in this article, the learning score is always above 90 points, and the learning efficiency is always above 80%.
