Monitoring of environmental parameters using internet of things and analysis of correlation between the parameters in a DWC hydroponic technique

Abstract: Internet of things (IoT) plays a major role in precision and sustainable agriculture system in urban farming. Hydroponic is one such modern technique where plant growth can be controlled and monitored with ease by integrating intelligence along with sensor technology. This research work presents the hydroponic deep water culture (DWC) to grow 'Amaranthus Dibius' in an indoor system, where the roots are completely submerged in the nutrient solution. The environmental parameters that affect plant growth are monitored and gathered by employing IoT based technology integrated with cloud. The parameters monitored are humidity, air temperature, water (root zone) temperature, EC and pH values through the sensor based technology using ESP32 with OLED display. The dataset is analysed using correlation coefficient and a linear regression model to know the degree of relationship between the parameters. This model shows that there is a negative correlation between root-zone temperature and electrical conductivity (EC) value.
