The potential use of waste glass powder in slag-based geopolymer concrete - an environmental friendly material

Abstract: This paper mainly focused on the potential use of waste glass powder in a slag-based geopolymer concrete. Waste glass powder is used as a source material and slag replacement in geopolymer concrete at a replacement percentage from 20% to 80%. In total, 16 geopolymer concrete mixes were prepared by varying the proportions of waste glass powder and molarities (M) of NaOH solution. Experimental analysis based on mechanical properties of geopolymer concrete and prediction of properties with the application of artificial intelligence through neural network was done. The experimental outcomes indicated that the mechanical (compressive, split-tensile and flexural) properties of geopolymer concrete yield better results from alkaline to binder (A/B) ratio of 0.55 and a proportion of 80% of slag: 20% glass powder with 12 M from the 16 mix proportions. The predicted mechanical property of geopolymer concrete with the application of artificial neural network (ANN) was observed to agree with the experimental strength values.
