Abstract: Implementation of security in the internet of things (IoT) is a considerable challenge that requires absolute observation. Conventionally, cryptography, authentication and access controls were used for security. However, these techniques are complex and demand excess memory as alternative, thereby trust-based schemes were employed. Existing trust techniques, though suitable, depends on second-hand information which makes them slow and dependent. Therefore, this paper presents novel hybrid trust scheme, as hidden game trust (HGT). The scheme uses hidden Markov model for measuring trust of IoT node and employs game strategy that assists nodes in making cooperative-decision. To stabilise the network, an incentive mechanism is introduced that lures illegitimate nodes to behave cooperatively. Besides, idea of temporal opportunity called reboot-time is operated to improve network survivability. Simulations carried in MATLAB states HGT outperforms existing EETE and hierarchal game models in terms of energy consumption by 98% and 97% respectively and end-to-end delay by 37% and 16% respectively.
